General information only — this guide explains how Linqer works and sensible habits for UK founders. It is not legal advice on advertising disclosures, platform terms, or data protection. Read each network's rules before you share links commercially.

This is a step-by-step path through Linqer for UK founders who want reciprocal link sharing without guessing the interface. Allow 20–30 minutes for registration, your first link, and five completed shares.

Before you sign up

Step 1 — Register

  1. Go to Register from Linqer.
  2. Enter email and a strong password.
  3. Choose your public nickname (3–24 characters; letters, numbers, spaces, . _ -).
  4. Tick privacy policy acceptance (required). Marketing email is optional.
  5. Submit — you land on the dashboard with 10 starting credits.

Privacy: nicknames, email, and the leaderboard

When you register on Linqer you choose a public nickname (3–24 characters) and accept the Privacy Policy. Your email is used for login and optional marketing only if you opted in — it is never shown on the public feed or leaderboard.

Link previews, titles, captions, and destination URLs are public by design: other members need to see what they are sharing. If you are uncomfortable with a URL being visible, do not submit it.

You can change your nickname or opt out of the leaderboard anytime in your dashboard under Public profile. Opting out removes you from rankings but your links can still appear in the feed when you have credits in the queue.

Step 2 — Add your first link

  1. Open Submit from the nav.
  2. Paste your URL and click fetch meta if you want title/description prefilled.
  3. Edit title and caption — be specific about the outcome (download, book, buy).
  4. Add tags relevant to your audience.
  5. Optional: upload image or very short video; otherwise preview generates from OG tags.
  6. Save — you now use one of three slots.

If meta fetch fails, type manually. Private intranet URLs may be blocked for security (SSRF protection). Use a public HTTPS page.

Step 3 — Review and approve

  1. Visit Review.
  2. Swipe left (or ✕) to skip links you will not share.
  3. Swipe right (or ♥) to approve — opens the share page.
  4. On desktop, use ‹ › arrows if you prefer clicking to dragging.

You never see your own links in the queue. Skipped links may reappear after a reset; completed shares do not.

Step 4 — Complete a share

  1. Read the prefilled message on the share page.
  2. Use Copy, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Reddit — or paste manually.
  3. Mark complete once you have posted or sent the tracking link.
  4. Earn +1 credit for that link (first completion only).
  5. The same card can swipe to the next approved link without leaving the page.

How credits and queue priority work

Credits are the fairness engine behind Linqer. New accounts start with 10 credits. You earn +1 when you complete a share for another member's link (once per link). You earn +3 when someone clicks the tracking link you posted — because clicks are harder than copy-paste and closer to real traffic.

Queue ordering uses owner credits plus tag overlap and how many times a link has already been shared. Members who contribute more tend to see their own links surface sooner. That is intentional: reciprocal communities collapse when everyone only promotes and nobody shares.

Credits are not money. You cannot buy them in the current release. Treat them as reputation points that keep the feed moving.

Step 5 — Check dashboard stats

On dashboard you see credits balance, each link's share count and click count, and profile settings. Per-link stats help you learn which offers resonate when others share them.

Step 6 — Adjust nickname or leaderboard

Under Public profile, change nickname or uncheck leaderboard visibility. Save — changes apply immediately to the feed and rankings.

Weekly habit (15 minutes)

Swipe UX on mobile and desktop

The review queue deliberately mirrors mobile dating-app gestures because founders already understand swipe-left-skip, swipe-right-yes. On desktop, arrow buttons offer the same choices without dragging. After you complete a share, the card advances in-place — you are not sent to a separate list underneath the current item. That keeps momentum during a short session.

The public Linq feed on the landing page uses the same component for guests. Swipe right prompts registration because only members can approve links for sharing. Preview the experience before you commit an email address.

Tracking links and click quality

Every approved share generates a unique path under /r/ on the Linqer app. When a visitor clicks, Linqer logs a hashed IP and truncated user agent, awards +3 credits to the sharer (subject to 24-hour deduplication), and opens the destination in a new tab. The intermediate page stays on Linqer so the click is counted before redirect.

This is not enterprise analytics — you will not see funnels or cohort charts. You will see whether real people clicked, which is enough to compare captions and offers when combined with your own Google Analytics or Plausible on the destination site.

Do not try to game clicks with automated scripts. Rate limits and dedupe exist to protect Linqer members. Inflated numbers would break queue fairness.

Troubleshooting your first week

If your link never appears for others, share more first — credits drive queue priority. If meta fetch fails, paste title manually and upload a preview image. If share buttons open empty on mobile, use Copy and paste into the native app.

Sample share message structure

Good shares lead with why your audience cares, not generic hype. Template: hook sentence → what the link delivers → tracking URL. Example: "If you invoice UK clients without accounting software, this free PDF template saves an evening — [tracking link]."

Using tags effectively

Editing or deleting a link

Use Submit with ?edit=ID or delete from the dashboard list. Overwriting keeps your slot count at three max. Delete frees a slot for a new campaign.

When you finish these steps, read the pillar guide on Linqer for strategy and limits.

Why UK micro-businesses care about link sharing

Companies House registrations for one-person companies and side hustles continue to grow. Many founders launch with under £300 — the MicroBiz365 thesis — and cannot afford agency retainers. Reciprocal tools fill the gap between "post once on LinkedIn" and "run Meta ads". They work when participants treat them as professional networking, not broadcast television.

If you already use GOV.UK guidance for invoicing or set-up, you know official sources matter for compliance. Linqer is neither official nor regulated — it is a community utility. Keep that framing when you explain it to customers or partners.
